University of Manchester Division of Dentistry

We are part of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) of the University of Manchester. With 11,000 students, 3,200 staff, over 30 undergraduate courses and around 90 postgraduate taught courses, the Faculty integrates discovery biology, clinical application and patient care. The Division of Dentistry is largely centred on the University Dental Hospital and leads Community Dental Services for Manchester Local Care Organisation. Our Division is home to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degree opportunities.

Our research

We have a long history of high-quality, impactful dental, oral and craniofacial research.

Our internationally renowned research is funded by research councils, the NHS, the EU, charity, and industry. Dentistry at Manchester has two principal themes: Basic Dental Sciences (incorporating biomaterials and biomechanics as well as Craniofacial genetics and development research) and Applied Health Sciences (focusing on oral health inequalities, dental public health and primary care, health service delivery, evidence synthesis and behaviour change).

We are world-leading in our Evidence Synthesis research and host Cochrane Oral Health. We are also home to the Colgate-Palmolive Dental Health Unit, a 50-year successful partnership between The University of Manchester and industry that has contributed to major scientific advances in dental health and continues to undertake world-leading research.
